Rukungiri Police arrests a teenage mother over murder of 2 weeks old son.
Rukungiri: Police in Rukungiri district have arrested Generous Ainembabazi, 19 in connection to the murder of her two weeks baby boy.
Police are also hunting for her accomplice and a husband, Godfrey Twongyirwe who is currently on the run.
It’s alleged that Ainembabazi, a resident of Kyahi village, Karuhembe Parish, Kebisoni sub-county Rukungiri district, fell in love with Twongirwe and conceived.
After realizing that his girlfriend was pregnant, Twongyirwe took her to stay with his parents in Makiro Village, Mabanga Parish Kebisoni sub-county where she delivered a baby boy on the 22nd December 2023.
Allegations further revealed that Kellen Asiimwe, the Mother of Twongyirwe, came up with information indicating that the baby wasn’t their blood and this eventually led to chasing Ainembabazi from her home on 07th January 2024.
A few moments later, Ainembabazi found her husband at the home of Mbyemire John Bosco in Kyahi village where he was working and staying.
She stayed with her baby and the husband until around 09:00 Pm when Twongyirwe picked and dumped it in an abandoned latrine belonging to Machati Prutazi of Kyahi village.
On 09th January 2024 at around 07:00 am Mbyemire asked for the whereabouts of the baby and when Ainembabazi opened up, he reported the matter at Mabanga Police Post for further management.
The scene was promptly visited, examined and documented by the police officers.
The body was retrieved and conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of the death and Ainembabazi was handed over to Police by residents who had arrested her as Twongyirwe remains at large.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional spokesperson confirmed the incident and revealed that inquiries into the matter are at hand.
