Rukungiri Police nets two over Murder
Rukungiri: Two suspects have been arrested in Rukungiri district in connection to the death of an 18 year man.
According to the Kigezi region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the deceased was identified as Derrick Niwahereza, a herdsman and a resident of Bugorogoro cell, Kyabugashe parish, Nyakagyeme sub county Rukungiri district.
The suspects in custody are Asiimwe Amon 16 years herds boy, a resident of Kinoni cell, Bugangari parish, Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri district and Orikiriza Joshua 14 years, a herds boy and a resident of Kibobo cell, Mashongora parish, Nyakagyeme sub-county, Rukungiri district.
It’s alleged that on Saturday April 20th April 2024 at around 12:00 pm at Rwenkuba Hill Kagashe cell, Bugangari parish Bugangari sub-county, while the three herd boys mentioned above were grazing cattle, Derrick and Amon agreed to start playing kickboxing to each other.
When Amon kicked Derrick and felt pain, Derrick picked a stone and hit him on the chest which inflicted him internal pain.
Immediately Amon ran to where Orikiriza Joshua was standing while holding along stick locally known as Orubango, disarmed it from him and hit it on the head of Derrick that caused him to fall down.
Both Amon and Orikiriza left him helpless while bleeding profusely from the head and went to their respective homes.
Rukundo Amston who was digging at the bottom of the hill (Rwenkuba) immediately saw them and informed the GISO Bugangari sub-county Mini Onzo who alerted officers at Bugangari police post.
A case of murder was opened at Bugangari police post, the scene of crime was visited, examined and documented.
In the process, the suspects were arrested to help Police in investigations.
The body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo health centre III for postmortem as investigations continue.
