Rukungiri Municipality MP aspirant Nathan Kamugisha calls for proper organization in NRM elections.
Rukungiri: The aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality Nathan Kamugisha has called on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral commission to always make early preparations and train election officials if they are to have free and fair internal party elections.
Kamugisha was speaking to our reporter recently in an interview.
His comments follow chaotic scenes that were witnessed in the recently concluded NRM Structural polls.
Kamugisha attributed the violence in the NRM elections to poor guidance from the party’s electoral body and inadequate sensitization of voters and elections officials by stakeholders.
He said to have free and fair elections, the party must give clear information to both voters and contestants about the election process adding that this will cease confusion that usually yields violence.
Kamugisha warned that the party risks losing support if it doesn’t re-organize itself at this early stage.
He also warned aspirants against sowing hatred among the voters describing it as detrimental to the party.
Apparently members of the NRM who want to contest as party flag bearers for different positions, including Members of Parliament (MPs), LCV Chairpersons, and municipal/city division seats are picking nomination forms from the party’s electoral commission offices in Kampala.
The exercise that commenced Monday June 2, will run until 15th June 2025.
The NRM party primaries for all MP aspirants are scheduled to take place on July 16, 2025.
