Rukungiri Municipality Launches UGX 400M Renovation Project at St. Gerald’s Secondary School

Rukungiri: Rukungiri Municipality has launched the renovation and remodelling of the computer laboratory, office block, and classroom block at St. Gerald’s Secondary School. The project, worth approximately UGX 400 million, aims to improve the school’s infrastructure and learning environment.

The launch ceremony was held at the school premises on October 29, in Ndorero Ward, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. The contract was awarded to Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company Limited, owned by Godfrey Nshabire.

According to the Municipal Civil Engineer, Hangson Nuwamanya, the project will cost a total of UGX 399,346,170. He explained that no new buildings will be constructed; instead, the project will focus on renovating the existing structures. The works will include repairing floors, demolishing weak walls, installing new windows, and refurbishing the administration block. The entire project is expected to be completed within six months.

The school headteacher, Cleophas Agaba, expressed gratitude to the Minister for Security, Hon. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, who visited the school on 9th  November, 2024, and instructed the then Rukungiri District Chief Administrative Officer, Hajji Swalihk Wasswa Masokoyi, to write to the Ministry of Finance about the challenges facing the school. Although the school had requested UGX 2 billion, the ministry allocated UGX 400 million to begin the renovation.

Agaba noted that the renovation of the two blocks will greatly enhance the school’s learning environment and overall welfare.

The contractor, Godfrey Nshabire, pledged to follow the agreed terms and ensure the work is completed within the set timeframe.

The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukungiri District, Dickson Muhoozi, urged the contractor to adhere to the Bill of Quantities (BOQs), use quality materials, and complete the project on schedule to ensure durability and value for money.

The event was attended by the Rukungiri Municipality Principal Education Officer, Town Clerk, Deputy Mayor, DISO, and other leaders from both the school and Rukungiri Municipality Council.
