Rukungiri DPC Warns Head Teachers Against Chasing Pupils for Fees
Rukungiri: The Rukungiri District Police Commander (DPC), SSP Apollo Kyangungu, has cautioned school head teachers against sending pupils home over unpaid fees.
Speaking during a community policing session on August 5, in Kitanda Cell, Nyakaina Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Kyangungu said ensuring that all children attend school is the responsibility of local leaders. He urged residents to report any government school that sends pupils away for fees.
The meeting, organized by residents and leaders of Nyakaina Parish, aimed to address community challenges including theft, drug abuse, and other security concerns.
Kyangungu further warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that such actions could lead to prosecution and possible murder charges.

Residents, including Moreen Atuhaire and Kadia Bananuka, raised concerns over rising school dropouts and drug abuse, which they attributed to domestic violence and theft in the area.
The Kitanda LC1 Chairperson, Denis Katabazi, said thieves have been targeting livestock such as pigs and cows, breaking into homes, and assaulting people to steal money. He cited one Godfrey Mwebesa as a notorious offender, allegedly involved in a recent attack on resident Joseph Mugisha.
