Rukungiri Clerics call for repentence as lent period begins.
Rukungiri: Religious leaders in Rukungiri district have called on Christians to use the lent period as the time of coming closer to God.
Our reporter visited different places of worship and residences of the faith leaders who in their message called on believers to cement their relationship with God in this lent period that begins today with “Ash Wednesday”.
The regional Bishop for National Fellowship of Born Again churches, (NAFBAC) Onesmus Ngoboka described lent period as a time when Christians put up their hearts to seek the faith of God.
He challenged all Christians across all denomination who cannot afford forty days of fasting to find some time or some days together with their families and fast if they are to see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living.
The assistant parish priest for christ the king parish, Rev fr. Henry Barekye in his message asked Christians to follow the three principles of lent period which are fasting, praying and Kindness.
The St Johns Kitojo Church of Uganda parish priest, Rev Nathan Muhumuza on his part emphasised that fasting involves reconciliation, reading the gospel without interference and sharing with the needy.
Rev Muhumuza urged Christians to put in practice what God requires them to do during this lent period hence getting blessings.
Lent period is the period in christian faith where believers fast for forty days and is characterised by bible reading, repentance and sharing.
