Return our money or face jail, Youth livelihood funds beneficiaries cautioned.
Rukungiri: The beneficiaries of Youth livelihood programme have been urged to pay back the funds if they are to avoid surcharges during the recovery process.
The caution was yesterday given by the Rukungiri district Youth livelihood program focal person Harrison Mukuru while speaking to our reporter in his office at the district head offices shortly after the youth livelihood funds recovery operation in Bugangari Sub-county and Bikurungu town council.
The operation resulted into the arrest of 12 youths from 17 groups from Bugangari sub-county and Bikurungu town council
However all the arrested were later released after committing to pay back the funds in the agreed period.
Mukuru further noted that Rukungiri district received over 1.2 billion shillings but has so far managed to recover only 340 million shillings.
One of the programme beneficiaries, Twinomugisha Justus from Bugangari Ryengyero youth dealers in brick laying group, intimated to Country Radio reporter that they failed to return the funds in time after facing a challenge of torrential rains that affected their bricks.
He further custed doubts on the transparency of their group’s treasurer whom they suspect of misappropriation of some funds as he was the one responsible for depositing money on their bank account.
