Residents of Rwendahi Cell in Kanungu Cry Out Over Severe Water Crisis

Kanungu: Residents of Rwendahi Cell, Nyakibuga Parish in Kihanda Sub-county, Kanungu District are facing a severe water crisis and are living in constant fear of disease outbreaks due to lack of access to clean water.

This was revealed on May 29 during an interview with our news reporter in Rwendahi Cell. Residents including Martin Arinaitwe and the LC1 Chairperson, Sam Hatariha, said the water shortage has forced people to fetch water from distant and often contaminated sources.

They highlighted the health problems resulting from this situation, saying many community members are suffering from waterborne diseases caused by using stagnant and unsafe water. This has led to increased hospital visits and high medical expenses.

The residents also pointed out the limited access to clean water from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), urging the government to urgently intervene and improve water sources to save lives.

In response, the LC3 Chairperson of Kihanda Sub-county, Davis Asimwe, confirmed that plans are underway to resume water supply through the NWSC, with distribution expected between July and August.

He urged residents to remain patient as authorities work to resolve the water crisis.
