Residents of Ndere Parish Decry Poor Roads and Collapsed Bridge
Rukungiri: Residents and local leaders in Ndere Parish, Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District, are demanding urgent action over the poor state of roads and bridges in their area, which has disrupted transport and service delivery.
They highlight Rutabago Road and Kabare Bridge, which connects Ruhinda Sub-county to Bugangari Sub-county, as being in a terrible state. The situation has made it difficult for residents to transport farm produce such as coffee to markets and has also affected access to essential services like education and healthcare.
The LC1 Chairperson of Omwitaaba Cell Ronald Natukunda, and resident Vana Karamira talking with our news reporter on April 4, expressed concern that the collapsed Kabare Bridge has left them without an alternative for transporting goods. They also fear for the safety of schoolchildren who cross the broken bridge daily, as its supporting culverts have completely broken down.
The residents are now appealing to the sub-county and district authorities, as well as their area Member of Parliament, to intervene and renovate the bridge to restore transport and service delivery.

Ndere Parish LC2 Chairperson, Deus Ssemakula, voiced his frustration, noting that despite the area’s strong support for the ruling NRM party estimated at 80% it remains one of the most neglected in terms of service delivery. He lamented that their elected representatives have failed to lobby for essential infrastructure improvements.
