Public Urged to Secure Marriage Certificates and Land Titles to Avoid Conflicts

Rukungiri: The public has been encouraged to secure marriage certificates and land titles in order to avoid land wrangles and family conflicts.

The call was made by legal expert Barnabas Tugumisirize during a legal sensitisation training held on January 29, at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality, Rukungiri District.

The training was organised by Legal Room Consultancy Limited and aimed at educating the public on how to comply with Uganda’s laws. Tugumisirize explained that participants were trained on how to write wills, acquire land titles, and process marriage certificates, among other legal matters.

He noted that many families face challenges where children put pressure on their parents to share land, a situation that often leads to conflicts. Tugumisirize warned that land without a title is at high risk of being taken by someone else who processes a land title for the same land.

He therefore urged residents of Rukungiri District and the entire country to take legal steps early by securing land titles and marriage certificates to protect their families and property.

Some of the participants, including Lilian Komuhangi and George Izongonza, said they attended the training to gain knowledge on how to properly prepare for their families both now and in the future.

At the end of the training, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their participation and commitment to promoting legal awareness aimed at reducing conflicts and related crimes.
