Prominent PFF Landlord Abandons Opposition, Declares Support for NRM

Rukungiri: A prominent opposition mobiliser in Nyakagyeme Sub County has crossed to the ruling NRM party. Onesmus Rwabushija, a resident of Kagororo Cell in Kabwoma Parish, who has been heading the PFF party in the area and even renting out his house to host its offices, publicly declared his defection on November 20.

Onesmus converted during campaign rallies for the Minister of Security and Rujumbura County MP, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, held in Kabwoma Parish. The Minister held meetings in several cells including Kashenyi, Kabura where he addressed supporters at Kabura Trading Centre. Kiteme, Kagororo and Kabwoma at Kagororo Trading Centre, as well as Rutete, Kahenda, Katashohora and Kabale, where he met residents at Rutete Church of Uganda.

Speaking after announcing his move, Onesmus said he decided to leave the opposition because it lacks a clear manifesto compared to the NRM, which he credited for government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and improvements in electricity, roads and schools.

In his response, Minister Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi welcomed the defection and urged other FDC and PFF supporters, along with members of other opposition parties, to follow Onesmus’ example and join the NRM.

He said the ruling party has delivered on key services and already enjoys overwhelming support from the public, adding that there is no reason for anyone to remain in the opposition.
