Prince Tugume Salim Kigumira Enthroned as Abahinda Clan Leader in Ankole

Ntungamo: The Abahinda clan in the Ankole region have officially enthroned Prince Tugume Salim Kigumira Kitoboo as their clan leader.

The colorful ceremony was held on December 27, at St. John’s School of Nursing playground in Ntungamo district, attracting Abahinda clan members from Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Kanungu, Kabale, Mitooma, and Mbarara districts.

In his acceptance speech, Prince Tugume Salim Kigumira Kitoboo said it is time for the Abahinda clan to reunite and work together.

He urged clan members to avoid divisions, be faithful, and work as a team, saying this is the only way to revive and strengthen Abahinda culture in Ankole. He also encouraged other clans in Uganda to promote unity within their cultures.

The Abahinda clan traces its origin to a god who is believed to have had three sons: Kairu, Kahima, and Kakama, with Kakama being the youngest.

The chairperson of retired head teachers in Rukungiri District, David Kapira, advised the clan to maintain decent cultural dressing, avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and engage in strategic planning such as planting coffee and rearing animals to improve their livelihoods.

The Abahinda clan chairperson, Sunday Steven, said the main purpose of the gathering was to reactivate and reunite the clan, adding that unity will strengthen their cultural identity.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ntungamo District, Jimmy Tashobya, urged the Abahinda clan to be trustworthy, united, and respectful of their leaders.

He encouraged them to acquire business skills, participate in farming activities, plant coffee, rear animals, and actively engage in government programs to improve their household incomes and contribute to community growth.
