Priest Decries Men Abandoning Family Roles at Burial of Veteran Catholic Faithful

Bushenyi: The parish priest of Kitabi Parish in Mbarara Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Hillary Katusiime, has expressed concern over men who abandon their family responsibilities, leaving the burden to women.

Fr. Katusiime made the remarks on August 11, during the requiem mass and burial of the late Rosemary Nyanjura Buseene, grandmother to Miss Moreen Rukundo of Country Radio, who passed away on July 18, 2025 in London, England. She was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Katwe, Kyandago, Ishaka–Bushenyi Municipality.

The cleric criticized men who, he said, have distanced themselves from churches and spend much of their time in bars drinking alcohol, leaving only women in church and at home to shoulder family duties.

Fr. Katusiime described the late Rosemary as a pillar of the Catholic Church who treated everyone equally regardless of status.

Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Vincent Birungi, a nephew of the late Rosemary, commended his mother for her hard work and role in fostering family unity. He revealed that her death was caused by kidney failure and vascular occlusion.

Fr. Birungi said his mother had been a cornerstone in both the Church and the family and called on relatives to work together to uphold her legacy.
