
PFF Youth in Rukungiri Demand Immediate Release of Dr. Kiiza Besigye
Rukungiri: Youth supporters of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Rukungiri District have held a peaceful protest demanding the immediate release of Dr. Kiiza Besigye, who is currently detained at Luzira Prison.
The protest on July 30, led the Deputy Speaker of Rukungiri Municipality and PFF District Youth Chairperson by Boaz Kamusiime saw angry youth march from the PFF offices through Republic Road and Karegyesa Road, carrying placards calling for bail for Dr. Besigye and other political prisoners.
Kamusiime expressed deep concern about Dr. Besigye’s continued detention and the conditions he is reportedly enduring. He criticized the government for failing to uphold justice and called on authorities to respect the rights of all citizens.
The protest aims to pressure the government to act before the court appearance scheduled for 16th August, 2025.

Other youth leaders who joined the protest include the Rukungiri Municipality Youth Councilor David Ainebyoona, and Mosine Twinomujuni also condemned President Museveni’s leadership, citing biblical teachings that denounce oppression. The youth called on Ugandans to pray for Dr. Besigye, expressing hope that a miracle could secure his release.

The former aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality and a senior PFF mobilizer Ingrid Turinawe Kamatenete, also voiced her concern. She said the time have come for the government to release Dr. Besigye and other political prisoners.
