Parents Urged to Discipline Children for a Better Future
Isingiro: Parents have been urged to discipline their children if they want them to grow into responsible citizens who live in ways that please God.
The call was made by the Director of St. Patrick Nursery and Primary School, Fr. Julius Turyatoranwa, during a parents’ meeting held on October 25, at the school in Rwakiruuri, Isingiro District.
Fr. Turyatoranwa expressed concern that many parents pamper their children and fail to correct them when they go wrong. He warned that such soft love encourages indiscipline and leads children away from good morals.

However, one parent, Maria Judith, a mental health practitioner from Kabale, advised parents and school authorities to discipline children with love. She said harsh punishment and excessive pressure have driven some children into depression, mental illness, and even suicide.

Some parents also voiced concern over how careless some caregivers have become, allowing children to watch anything on television and social media. They blamed this exposure for the growing moral decay among children.

Fr. Turyatoranwa further noted that the school remains committed to academic excellence. He said in the past four years of Primary Leaving Examinations, all their candidates passed in divisions one and two, with the lowest division one performance at 72.1 percent. He added that their target this year and beyond is to achieve a 100 percent first-grade pass.
