
Over 2,500 Pupils Ungraded in P.7 and P.5 Mock Exams in Rukungiri District
Rukungiri: A total of 827 pupils (12.7%) in Primary Seven and 1,709 pupils (18.6%) in Primary Five were ungraded in the recently concluded district mock examinations in Rukungiri.
The results were released on August 20, during a meeting of district leaders and head teachers at Makobore High School, Kinyasano Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, by the Inspector of Schools in charge of internal exams, Antony Amperize Rutare.
According to Amperize, the P.7 results show that 556 pupils (8.7%) passed in Division One. 2,608 (40.1%) in Division Two, 1,252 (19.3%) in Division Three, 1,241 (19.15%) in Division Four, 3 pupils (0.05%) in Division X, while 827 (12.7%) were ungraded.
By Sub County performance, Buyanja Sub county led with a pass rate of 91.3%, followed by Bugangari (90.3%), Ruhinda (89.7%), Buhunga (88.4%), Bwambara (88.1%), Nyarushanje (87.6%), Kebisoni (86.1%), Nyakagyeme (83.2%), and Nyakishenyi (82.5%).
Subject analysis showed that 19.7% failed Mathematics, 9.1% Science, 12.5% English, and 5% Social Studies (SST). The best-performing P.7 schools were Kanyamacumu Primary School (government-aided), Bwanga Progressive, and Brain Trust Primary School (both private).
For P.5, 808 pupils (8.8%) passed in Division I, 3,025 (34.9%) in Division II, 1,631 (17.8%) in Division III, 1,809 (19.7%) in Division IV, 16 pupils (0.2%) did not sit, while 1,709 (18.6%) were ungraded.
In subject performance, 30% failed English, 10% Mathematics, 49.4% Social Studies, and 9.76% Science. The best-performing schools were Bugangari Primary School (government-aided) and Bugangari Parents Primary School (private).

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom warned private school head teachers against stealing bright students from government schools.

The District Secretary for Education, Commercial and Tourism, Caledonia Musimenta urged head teachers from both government and private schools to respect school holidays, stressing that learners need time to rest. She further cautioned schools against taking excessive loans and strongly discouraged corporal punishment.
