Over 200 People Trained in Practical Skills to Fight Unemployment in Nyakishenyi, Rukungiri District

Rukungiri: More than 200 people in Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rubabo Constituency, Rukungiri District have been equipped with hands-on skills to help them start small businesses and reduce the high rate of unemployment.

The training, held at Nyakishenyi Market, focused on making bar soap, liquid soap, shampoo, jelly, and other household products. It was spearheaded by the aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District Hon. Innocent Nabasa Kashobera.

The beneficiaries included men, women, and youth, many of whom shared that they had long relied on empty promises from politicians about office jobs that never materialized.

Speaking to our news reporter at the close of the training on April 11, Nabasa said she launched the program after realizing that unemployment remains a major challenge in the community. She noted that practical skills provide a more reliable path to self-reliance than political promises.

Nabasa explained that engaging youth in productive work also helps reduce crime and drug abuse, as they become too focused on their businesses to engage in harmful behavior.

She pledged to support the trained groups with startup materials and announced plans to roll out the program across all subcounties in Rukungiri District.
