Opposition in Parliament mourns FDC’s former spokesperson Eperu
Kampala: The Opposition in Parliament has paid tribute to former FDC spokesperson Sarah Eperu.
Eperu, who was also Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader of the women’s league, passed on on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Life Link Hospital in Kampala where she had been rushed for medical attention.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, while giving his remarks during the unveiling of the Oppositions alternative budget of shillings 43 trillion on Monday April 8 2024, asked MPs to observe a moment of silence to remember Eperu for her contribution to the struggle.
National Unity Platform party president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine also shared the same sentiments and sent his condolences to her family and the Opposition.
Former FDC president Kizza Besigye broke the disturbing news on Sunday evening.
“Just been given the very sad news of the passing of our veteran political activist Sarah Eperu—devastating!” he posted.
FDC has, in a social media post, eulogized the deceased as a dedicated member of the party who served it in various capacities till the time of her death.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our comrade and dedicated member of the party, Hon. Sarah Eperu. Hon. Eperu served the party in various positions as the former Spokesperson of the Women’s League and, until her passing, as the Chairperson of the Kapir County Constituency Branch in Ngora District,” FDC said.
Eperu also served as a press secretary for FDC and was a pivotal figure in Uganda’s political struggle as a vibrant activist. She participated in quite a number of protests, such as ‘women’s lives matter, among others.
