Nyamunuka Residents Celebrate Katafa’s Landslide Victory as LCIII Chairperson/Town Mayor
Ntungamo: Nyamunuka Town Council in Kajara County, Ntungamo District, erupted into jubilation following the election of Yasin Byamukama Katafa as the new LCIII chairperson and town mayor.
Celebrations were held at Kyabashenyi Church of Uganda playground, Ntungamo district where hundreds of supporters gathered amid cheers, ululations, cultural songs, and traditional dances to mark what many described as a turning point for the town council and a new chapter of hope and development.
Katafa was officially declared the winner on January 5, by the Ntungamo District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Charles Wafula. He secured a decisive 3,305 votes, overwhelmingly defeating his closest rival, Kitunzi Urban of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), who garnered 280 votes.

Residents expressed optimism about Katafa’s leadership, citing his approachability and commitment to addressing community concerns. One voter, Matia Mulumba, said that although he does not ordinarily support the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), he voted for Katafa out of personal confidence in his leadership. Mulumba noted that he believes Katafa will listen to the people and work to solve their problems.
Several elected councillors, including Hawa Nasanga and Brian Tukundane, joined the celebrations and pledged their full support to the new chairperson in delivering services and advancing development initiatives in Nyamunuka Town Council.
Addressing supporters, Katafa expressed gratitude to God, his family, campaign team, and the electorate for the overwhelming mandate. He called on residents to embrace unity, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence, stressing that his leadership would be anchored in equality, mutual respect, and inclusivity.
The landslide victory underscores strong public confidence in Katafa’s leadership as residents now look ahead to tangible improvements in service delivery and local development.
