NRM Wins Majority of LC3 Seats in Rukungiri as PFF Takes Four

Rukungiri: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won the majority of Local Council III (LC3) chairperson seats in Rukungiri District, taking 12 out of the 16 contested positions. The Peoples Front for Freedom (PFF) secured four seats in the elections held yesterday.

The results were announced on February 4 and 5, by the Rukungiri District Electoral Returning Officer, Namara K. Abas, at the tally centre located at Rukungiri District Headquarters.

In Southern Division, Joel Gumisiriza (NRM) won with 1,521 votes, defeating Fred Kamugisha (Independent) who scored 0 votes, Vincent Katsimbura (Independent) with 91 votes, and Gadson Mutabazi (PFF) with 1,243 votes.

In Ruhinda Sub-County, Erina Hellen Kabajungu (NRM) emerged winner with 3,748 votes. She defeated Innocent Taremwa (Independent) who got 3,262 votes and Herbert Turyagyenda (PFF) who scored 74 votes.

In the Eastern Division, Gershom Twesigye (PFF) won with 1,963 votes, defeating Moses Nuwagaba (NRM) who received 1,440 votes and Amon Nuwamanya (Independent) with 106 votes.

In Buyanja Town Council, Julius Bernard Musinguzi (PFF) was elected mayor after securing 863 votes, defeating Patrick Nyesigire (NRM) who got 613 votes.

In Kebisoni Sub-County, Mabwa Frank Arinaitwe (NRM) won with 2,318 votes, defeating Joseph Mwebembezi (PFF) who received 1,576 votes.

In Rwerere Town Council, Catherine Tumusiime (NRM) won with 795 votes, defeating Justus Turyahebwa (PFF) who got 691 votes and Henry Bazimbana Ngateireyo (Independent) with 3 votes.

In Kebisoni Town Council, Leonard Muhunguzi (NRM), a guest in ENAAMA ya Ruhanga program on County Radio 87.6 FM, was elected mayor with 1,900 votes. He defeated Evarist Mubangizi (Independent) with 1,595 votes and Zephas Abamanya (PFF) who scored 356 votes.

In Bikurungu Town Council, George Sunday (PFF) won with 876 votes, defeating Arthur Tugume (NRM) who received 761 votes.

In Bwambara Sub-County, Gershom Niwagaba (NRM) won with 3,157 votes. He defeated Christopher Kahonaho Kagayano (Independent) with 1,869 votes, Banard Turyatunga Munini (PFF) with 1,155 votes, and Mustafa Aribariho (Independent) who scored 820 votes.

In Bugangari Sub-County, Innocent Turyahabwe (NRM) commonly known as Kaino was declared winner with 4,141 votes, defeating Deus Ahimbisibwe (PFF) who got 2,530 votes and Jaston Byamukama (Independent) with 29 votes.

In Buyanja Sub-County, Emmy Agaba Rubondo (PFF) won with 5,691 votes, defeating Joseph Bainomugisha (NRM) who received 2,797 votes.

In Nyarushanje Sub-County, Alex Mujuni Bruno (NRM) won with 6,281 votes, defeating the incumbent Michael Musiime (PFF) who scored 4,799 votes.

Benson Mugisha (NRM), commonly known as Auntie, was declared winner for Buhunga Sub-County. Wednesday Twinomujuni (NRM) won in Nyakyishenyi Sub-County, Sylvia Twinomugisha Katimbira (NRM) won in Western Division, and Godson Mubangizi (NRM) was declared winner for Nyakagyeme Sub-County.

However, vote figures for these areas and their competitors were not available by press time, as the winners were not present at the tally centre at the time of declaration.
