North Kigezi Diocese Postpones Installation of Church Pillars and Elders

Rukungiri: The North Kigezi Diocese of the Church of Uganda has postponed the installation ceremony for Church Pillars and Elders that was scheduled to take place this Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri District.

In an official communication dated October 23, 2025 and signed by the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Canon Baingana Eric Mugyenzi, the diocese explained that the postponement follows clarification from the Provincial Secretariat of the Church of Uganda, which confirmed that the 2016 ban on the installation of Church Pillars and Elders is still in effect.

“The ceremony for the installation of North Kigezi Diocese Church Pillars and Elders has been postponed until further notice,” the letter reads in part. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and request Christians to continue praying as we await further guidance from the Province.”

The message, addressed to all clergy, lay readers, and Christians in the diocese, emphasizes that the diocese remains committed to following the guidance of the Church of Uganda’s provincial leadership.

The 2016 ban was issued by the Provincial Assembly of the Church of Uganda to streamline the recognition and installation of church leadership roles across dioceses.

Meanwhile, believers have been encouraged to uphold the matter in prayer as the diocese awaits official communication from the provincial authorities regarding the next steps.
