Newly Recruited Teachers in Rukungiri Urged to Diversify Income Sources
Rukungiri: Newly recruited primary school teachers in Rukungiri District have been encouraged to engage in alternative income-generating activities, such as farming, to reduce over-reliance on salaries, save for the future, and plan for the next generation.
This message was delivered on March 26, by the chairperson of the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) by Biriho Lovence, during a meeting with 22 newly recruited teachers held at Rukungiri Main Hall.
Biriho emphasized the importance of exploring additional income streams beyond salaries to enhance financial stability, security, and overall well-being. She also highlighted UNATU’s mission of protecting and promoting the social, economic, and professional interests of its members to ensure the delivery of quality education.
She noted that teachers have benefited from UNATU’s negotiations for salary enhancements, improved working conditions, and other labor-related rights.
