NCHE Handsover Charter to Metropolitan International University Leadership

Education: Metropolitan International University (MIU) has officially received a university charter, granting the institution full legal recognition to train students from all parts of the world and to confer undergraduate, master’s, PhD, postgraduate, and professorship degrees.

The charter was presented by officials from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) on February 17, 2026. It was signed by President Yoweri Museveni on October 4, 2025.

Metropolitan International University has its main campus in Kisoro District, with two additional branches located in Mbarara City and Kampala.

The charter gives MIU full legal authority to operate as an autonomous institution of higher learning and to establish its own governance structures.

Speaking in an interview with our reporter, the University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Julius Arinaitwe, said the charter has elevated MIU to the level of other recognized universities. He noted that the university can now apply for government student loan schemes to support students who lack school fees.

Dr. Arinaitwe emphasized that MIU is committed to producing graduates who create jobs and are competitive in the global job market. He added that the university charter will significantly strengthen this mission.

He urged parents and guardians to enroll their children at Metropolitan International University, which offers programs at PhD, master’s, degree, diploma, and certificate levels across a wide range of science and humanities courses.

The university offers a variety of programs designed to equip students with practical skills and give them a competitive advantage in their careers.
