Mubende Moneylender Allegedly Operating Illegal Detention Facility for Defaulting Clients

Mubende: A moneylender in Mubende District is under investigation for allegedly running a detention facility to hold clients who default on their loans.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Mubende, Al-Hajj Umar Lule Mawiya, identified the suspect as Vianey Kalihuungu, also known as Nzabale, from Kakwamango Parish in Bagezza Sub-county.

RDC Mawiya on November 7 directed Mubende police to arrest Nzabale after multiple residents from sub-counties across Kassambya Constituency, along with their local leaders, sought justice at his office.

The residents accused Nzabale of harassment, including imposing excessively high-interest rates and detaining individuals who fail to fully repay their debts.

Police are currently investigating the claims to ensure accountability and protect community members from unlawful practices.
