Ministry of Education Postpones School Re-opening to February 10.
Kampala: The Ministry of Education and Sports has postponed the re-opening of all schools and education institutions across Uganda to Tuesday, February 10, 2026, citing the ongoing General Elections and the need to ensure the safety of learners.
In an official statement issued on Friday January 16, the Ministry revised its earlier directive of January 6, which had scheduled schools to re-open for the first term on February 2.
The circular was signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kadrace R. Turyagyenda.
The decision affects all education institutions across the country, including government and private schools, international schools, tertiary institutions, and universities.
According to the Ministry, the change was made to allow for a safe and smooth electoral process, while reducing possible disruptions to learning and ensuring the safety of millions of students.
School administrators have been instructed to strictly follow the new re-opening date and adhere to the approved school calendar published on the Ministry’s official website.
Parents, guardians, learners, and the general public have been urged to take note of the changes to avoid confusion.
The Ministry assured stakeholders that any further updates will be communicated through official channels.
