
Minister Jim Muhwezi Urges Public to Separate Politics from Religion
Rukungiri: The Minister for Security, Hon. Major General retired Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, has urged the public to avoid mixing politics with religion if they want quality leaders who can effectively represent their interests in government.
Minister Muhwezi who was the chief guest made this call on March 9, during a thanksgiving event for businessman Bernard Mugarura Kaharata, the father of Rukungiri District Woman MP, Midius Natukunda Kaharata. The event, held at Mary Queen of Apostles Rwamagaya Catholic Parish in Ruhinda Sub county, Rujumbura County, aimed to raise funds for purchasing a vehicle for the church.
Muhwezi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency, warned that divisions based on religion and politics lead to poverty, poor leadership, and underdevelopment. He encouraged people to focus on hard work and embrace government programs to improve their livelihoods through the cash economy.
He also thanked church leaders for supporting government initiatives and urged them to teach Christians about mindset change, emphasizing the importance of working for a better future rather than focusing solely on politics.
During the event, Minister Muhwezi contributed UGX 20 million towards purchasing a Land Cruiser for the church’s activities.

The Dean of Nyakibale and Parish Priest of Christ the King Catholic Parish Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Turyatorana, urged Christians to abandon negative behaviors during this Lenten season. He called on them to repent from sins such as alcohol abuse, jealousy, domestic violence, and adultery. He also reminded them that Satan often uses attractive temptations to lead people astray and encouraged them to remain vigilant in their faith.

Rukungiri Woman MP Midius Natukunda Kaharata thanked Minister Muhwezi for honoring the event and expressed gratitude to her parents for their love and guidance, which have always encouraged her to read the Bible. She urged parents to raise their children with good morals, speak to them with kindness, and ensure they receive an education.
Natukunda also encouraged the public to embrace government programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga to improve their financial stability and support their communities.

Businessman Bernard Mugarura Kaharata explained that he organized the thanksgiving event to celebrate his gift of life, 40 years of marriage, and the handover of the Holy Mother Virgin Mary Shrine, which he constructed. The total amount collected during the event was UGX 82,400,000, which will be used to purchase the church’s vehicle.
