Minister Jim Muhwezi Donates 40 Mattresses to Rwengiri Catholic Youth
Rukungiri: The Minister for Security, Hon. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, has donated 40 mattresses worth UGX 2 million to the youth of Rwengiri Catholic Parish in Bugangari Sub county, Rukungiri District.
The donation was handed over to the parish youth chaplain, Rev. Fr. Clement Musaryimana, by Isaac Kaharuza, the minister’s political assistant, who represented him as the guest of honor. The handover took place on January 26, during a thanksgiving mass marking the conclusion of a three-day youth conference held at the church, located in Burama Cell, Burama Parish.
Speaking on behalf of the minister, Kaharuza urged the youth to avoid harmful substances like marijuana and alcohol, emphasizing the importance of protecting their lives as they are the future of Uganda. He also thanked the church for working closely with the government, noting that political divisions hinder the effective delivery of government services. Kaharuza encouraged the public to actively participate in government programs for their benefit.

Rev. Fr. Musaryimana highlighted the parish’s ongoing challenge of insufficient mattresses to accommodate participants during conferences and other functions. He revealed that their goal is to acquire at least 200 mattresses to meet the parish’s needs. He explained that during the previous youth conference, a thanksgiving collection helped them purchase 20 mattresses, and he thanked Minister Muhwezi for his generous support. He added that the mattresses will not only be used during conferences but also hired out to generate income for the parish.

The head teacher of St. Paul’s Secondary School Kazindiro Dan Baramire, urged the youth to focus on education and hard work, encouraging them to think beyond immediate needs and work towards a brighter future.

Youth chairperson Racheal Nimusiima expressed gratitude for the donation, saying that the lack of mattresses had been a major challenge during past conferences. She added that the event was organized to inspire the youth to live Christian lives and avoid bad behaviors.
