Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Urges Residents to Embrace Peaceful Politics During Funeral of Former Councilor

Rukungiri: Residents of Ruhinda Sub-county in Rukungiri District have been urged to avoid fights in politics and instead embrace unity and peaceful dialogue.

The call was made on August 4, by the Minister for Security Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency in Rukungiri district during the funeral service of the late Sanyu Dinavensi the former councilor for Nyakitabire Parish in Ruhinda Sub-County Rukungiri district.

The service was held at her home in Mpanga Cell.

Maj. Gen. Muhwezi cautioned the community against supporting leaders who insult others and emphasized the need to elect those who uphold respect and unity. He described the late Sanyu as a wise, intelligent, and truthful woman who left behind a strong legacy.

The parish priest of Rwamagaya Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Robert Nsinga, urged the family and the congregation to always remember the day their loved one’s passed on and reflect on their own lives. He encouraged people to live in a way that pleases God and to express love and appreciation for others while they are still alive.

He also appealed to politicians to educate the public about the dangers of alcohol, noting that many fear losing votes if they speak out.

The late Sanyu Dinavensi, aged 62, was a retired area councilor for Nyakitabire Parish. She succumbed to cancer and is survived by her husband, Bernard Byabagambi, along with seven sons and one daughter.
