Lt Gen Kavuma Praises UPDF Peacekeepers for Discipline and Professionalism in Somalia

Somalia: The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Force Commander, Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, has commended Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under National Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI) for their discipline, dedication, and professionalism.

During his maiden visit to the camp, Lt Gen Kavuma expressed satisfaction with the soldiers’ vigilance and commitment to security. “You have shown seriousness and professionalism in your work, and I urge you to maintain this vigilance even when you return home to Uganda,” he said, reminding them to uphold the UPDF’s values.

Highlighting the purpose of their mission, Lt Gen Kavuma stressed the importance of pan-Africanism. “Our business as UPDF in Somalia is all about pan-Africanism. We must sacrifice to ensure that Somalia is stable,” he stated.

He also encouraged the troops to take advantage of the Wazalendo Sacco to grow their savings and make investments for personal development.

UNGU-XI Commanding Officer, Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, urged the soldiers to follow the Force Commander’s guidance, noting that discipline and commitment would benefit both their military careers and personal lives.

The visit is expected to boost the operational effectiveness and unity of UNGU-XI forces in their mission.
