Lt. Col. Mwesigye Urges NRM Members to Fight Corruption and Support President Museveni’s 2026 Bid

Rukungiri: The Commissioner in charge of RDCs for Western Uganda, Lt. Col. James Mwesigye, has called upon members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to love the government they serve and fight corruption.

Mwesigye made the remarks on October 15, at Nyakagyeme Subcounty headquarters during a patriotism workshop organized for LC1, LC2, and LC3 leaders of Nyakagyeme Subcounty in Rukungiri District.

Mwesigye urged NRM members to love Uganda above all, noting that patriotism begins with genuine love for the country. He also warned members of opposition groups such as National Unity Platform and other parties to learn to appreciate and love the government, encouraging them to promote government programs in preparation for the 2026 elections.

“Those who don’t love the government should move elsewhere because change cannot be forced. It will be determined by the people through voting in 2026,” Mwesigye said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Security and MP for Rujumbura County, Rtd Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, also addressed the leaders at the same event. He urged LC1, LC2, and LC3 chairpersons to protect the gains achieved under the NRM government.

Gen Muhwezi called upon local leaders to ensure peace and security in their communities and to focus on fulfilling the NRM manifesto during their term of service.

“The manifesto of the NRM is to protect peace and security. When you love your country, you must first love yourself and your neighbor,” said Gen Muhwezi.

He further encouraged leaders to embrace unity, cooperation, and patriotism, noting that these values will bring about development and harmony in Nyakagyeme Sub County. He said the meeting aimed to shape local and district public servants to become real patriots and agents of change.

On his part, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Bron Kikashemeza, urged residents to shun politics of identity and instead elect leaders based on their ability to deliver services.

Kikashemeza reminded the public that power belongs to the people of Uganda. He also encouraged leaders to resolve family issues within their communities, work in unity, and uphold truthfulness in their committees.

He further advised residents to work hard and fight poverty in their homes, saying, “Poverty and poor health are a matter of choice.”
