Kyamakanda SS Faces ‘Good Problem’ as Rising Enrollment Strains Infrastructure

Rukungiri: The increasing number of students at Kyamakanda Secondary School in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District, is putting pressure on the school’s infrastructure despite ongoing efforts by parents to address the challenge.

The school currently has 1,126 students, including 509 boys and 617 girls. Of these, 890 are in the boarding section, while 236 are day scholars.

While addressing parents during the Annual PTA meeting held on March 28, at Kyamakanda Archdeaconry Church premises, the headteacher, David Turyamusiima Kapiira, said the school is lobbying for government funding to construct a multi-purpose block. He noted that on March 24, 2026, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Rukungiri District visited the school, toured the facilities, and promised to support their efforts by lobbying the relevant ministry.

Turyamusiima added that the school urgently needs more beds, construction of a pit latrine for the boys’ dormitory, and an additional girls’ dormitory to accommodate the growing student population.

The PTA Chairperson, Henry Ngateireyo, advised parents to work hard to improve the welfare of their families.

Meanwhile, the Rukungiri Senior Education Officer, Anxious Ganshanga , who was the chief guest, urged parents to always create time for their children and guide them with proper advice.

During the meeting, the school administration also awarded gifts to the best-performing students in the 2025 UCE and UACE examinations, as well as their parents.
