Kanungu Police nets two Over Murder
Kanungu: Police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances under which a 60-year-old woman was murdered.
The deceased has been identified as Speria Mbabazi, a resident of Kasiizi village, Muramba parish, Rutenga sub-county in Kanungu district.
It’s alleged that on Sunday May 26 2024, at around 07:00 PM, Mbabazi left Kakyere trading center and, while about 150 meters from her home, was ambushed and strangled to death with a piece of cloth.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said the deceased was suspected to have had money, since she had recently sold part of her land for 2 million shillings and had been seen with her biological son, Abel Tusasibwe, 34, at the trading center buying clothes and other items.
Maate added that Police were notified and visited the scene with a police sniffer dog. He revealed that Police managed to track two suspects who were arrested and are now in custody to aid in the investigation.
Police statement indicates that a postmortem was conducted, and the body was handed over to relatives for a decent burial as inquiries are going on.
