Kanungu Man Burned to Death by Mob for Alleged Theft.

Kanungu: The territorial police in Kanungu District have launched investigations into the death of Niwagaba Simon, aged 35, a resident of Katungu Cell, Eastern Ward, Kambuga Subcounty.

According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, it is alleged that on November 11, 2024, Niwagaba was caught stealing cassava, a hen, a mattress, and matoke from multiple individuals whose identities are yet to be established. Enraged by his actions, local residents reportedly apprehended Niwagaba and set him ablaze.

Police were alerted and rushed to the scene but were unable to save him. Officers from Kambuga Police Station processed and documented the scene, and the deceased’s body was taken to Kambuga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the mob action, with the police committed to bringing the culprits to justice.
