Kamugisha Urges Voters to Reject Intimidation and Bribery Ahead of Rukungiri Municipality MP Elections
Rukungiri: With only four days left to the elections, aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, Nathan Kamugisha, has urged voters not to be intimidated or threatened during this critical period.
Kamugisha made the remarks on July 13, while appearing on a talk show on 87.6 FM Country Radio, where he addressed several concerns affecting the electoral process.
He expressed concern over reports that some candidates are allegedly intimidating voters and soliciting national identity cards from them in exchange for money—an act he described as voter bribery and electoral malpractice.
Kamugisha called upon the public to report such cases to relevant authorities like the Police, Electoral Commission, or Resident District Commissioner, emphasizing that free and fair elections are a right for every Ugandan.
“Do not allow anyone to scare you or take your ID in exchange for money. Vote for candidates who have ideas and plans to develop our communities, not those who are only seeking to enrich themselves,” Kamugisha said.
He urged voters to make informed decisions by choosing leaders based on their vision and ability to serve, rather than being lured by short-term handouts.
“Don’t vote for money. Vote for the future of your children, better roads, clean water, and improved healthcare and education,” he added.
Kamugisha concluded by reminding voters to turn up in large numbers on election day and peacefully cast their votes without fear.
