Kakiinga Residents Protest Over Neglect of Kiborogota Bridge and Poor Road Conditions.
Rukungiri: Residents of Kakiinga Village in Rwakirunguura Parish, Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have protested the neglect of Kiborogota Bridge and the poor state of the road connecting Kiborogota to Omukagaana.
During a community work exercise locally known as Burungi Bwansi, to renovate the road from Kiborogota Bridge to Omukagaana Trading Centre, on March 29, residents revealed plans to raise funds for the bridge’s renovation, estimated to cost over 6.74 million shillings.
Local leaders, including, the LC2 chairperson for Rwakirunguura Parish David Kitekateko, and Mugasha Nicholas Kikafunda, expressed concerns over the difficulties faced by motorists due to the poor connection between the tarmac and murram road.
They blamed the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) for constructing the bridge with small calverts and failing to level it properly with the tarmac, leading to frequent accidents. They are now calling on authorities to install larger calverts and use tractors to level the ground for improved safety.
