Kabale Lodge Murder Suspect Arrested After Confessing In Kampala Church
Kabale: Worshippers at a church in Nakawa, Kampala, were left in shock when a young man stood up during testimony time and confessed to killing a woman in Kabale District two weeks earlier.
Police have identified the suspect as Clinton Mwesiime, 24, a clinical officer who was volunteering at Hamurwa Health Centre IV and also serving as a part-time school nurse at St. John’s SS Ikumba, both in Hamurwa Town Council, Rubanda District. Mwesiime hails from Mitooma District but had been residing in Hamurwa.
The deceased, Kobusingye Leonada, 45, was a resident of Ahataba Village, Shebeya Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county, Rubanda District. Sources in Hamurwa allege that Leonada used to wash clothes for Mwesiime at a fee, and the two later became intimately involved.

It is claimed that Leonada became pregnant and refused to abort, insisting that Mwesiime marry her. Community sources further allege that the suspect was ashamed of the situation, particularly after reportedly contracting HIV from her, and hatched a plan to end her life.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the murder occurred on the night of July 29, 2025, at Cheers Pub and Accommodation, located behind the former Equity Bank building in Central East Cell, Kabale Municipality.
Police say that at around 9:45 PM on the fateful night, a man and a woman registered under the names Andy Julius and Orishaba Allen checked into the lodge claiming to be from Katuna. Their true identities were unknown at the time.

The following morning, at around 9:51 AM, a lodge attendant entered the room for routine cleaning and was horrified to find the woman lying in a pool of blood with four stab wounds to the chest and stomach. A blood-stained knife was recovered from the scene. The man she had checked in with had vanished.
A manhunt was immediately launched, but the trail went cold until August 9, 2025, when Mwesiime was arrested at a Nakawa church. Worshippers were stunned when he openly confessed to the killing and asked the congregation to pray for him. Police officers from Jinja Road Police Station took him into custody before transferring him to Kabale Central Police Station on Tuesday.
Mwesiime is currently being held at Kabale CPS and will be produced before court upon completion of investigations.
