Judicial Service Commission Urges Public to Report Corrupt Judiciary Officials.

Rukungiri: The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has urged the public to report any complaints against judiciary officials who mistreat them during the justice process.

This call was made yesterday during a half-day workshop with journalists from Rukungiri District, held at the Rukungiri Chief Magistrate’s Court in Rukungiri Municipality.

While addressing the journalists, the Acting Registrar in the department of legal education, public affairs and research in the JSC, Samuel Mugisha advised the public not to make any cash payments at court.

He clarified that all payments must be made through the bank, and only receipts should be submitted to the court. He urged people to report anyone who asks for money to the JSC.

Mugisha also encouraged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to always seek justice through legal channels. He noted that prisons are currently overcrowded and advised people to be peacemakers rather than lawbreakers who end up in jail.

He further encouraged journalists to be good examples to the public in following and respecting the law.

A legal officer with the Judicial Service Commission David Wandera, explained the key roles of the commission. These include recommending to the President candidates for positions such as Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice, appointing deputy registrars, assistant registrars, chief magistrates, and more.

Wandera added that the commission is also responsible for disciplining judicial officers, educating the public about the law, and other related duties.

The Judicial Service Commission is conducting similar outreach programs in Mbarara City and other parts of the region. He reminded the public that all their services are free of charge.
