Heavy Downpour Disrupts Opposition PFF Mobilisation Launch in Rukungiri
Rukungiri: The mobilization launch of the Opposition Front for Freedom (PFF) party in Rukungiri District was on December 11, disrupted by a heavy downpour that forced leaders and supporters to flee for shelter.
The event was led by the party president and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Western Region Vice Chairperson Nicholas Thadeus Kamara, and Rukungiri Municipality MP flag bearer Ingrid Turinawe, among other leaders.
The mobilisation activities began with a procession through the streets of Rukungiri Municipality at around midday, after which supporters converged at Rukungiri Playground.
However, shortly after they sang the Kigezi anthem following the Uganda National Anthem, the previously bright weather suddenly changed, and light drizzles began. Supporters braved the rain, using plastic chairs as shields since the tents could not accommodate everyone.
Moments after Kamara concluded his remarks, the rainfall intensified. As district leaders prepared to speak, strong winds swept through the area, worsening the situation.
The stage where the leaders were seated began to shake due to the heavy wind and rain, forcing them to abandon it and rush to their vehicles for safety.
The master of ceremonies was compelled to pause the launch as some supporters struggled to hold the stage and tents from collapsing.
