Government to Boost Art Teachers’ Salaries and Improve Living Standards
Rukungiri: The government has announced plans to increase salaries for art teachers and enhance the living standards of all educators. This was revealed on October 5, 2024, by the LCV Chairperson for Rukungiri District Geoffrey Kyomukama, who spoke on behalf of Security Minister Rtd Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi Katugugu who was the guest of honor during the National Teachers’ Day celebrations at Rukungiri Inn Hotel.
The event focused on the theme “Valuing Teachers’ Voices Towards a New Social Contract for Education.”
Kyomukama urged teachers to embrace their profession, highlighting their crucial role in shaping the next generation.
During the event, Biriho Lovence, Chairperson of the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) for Rukungiri District, emphasized that many schools in the district are in poor condition. He called on the government to take immediate action to address these challenges.
Rukungiri District Speaker James Turyamubona also urged head teachers to foster cooperation with their staff. He stressed that collaboration is essential for achieving academic excellence and encouraged school leaders to adopt modern ways of working together.
