Gen. Tumukunde Pledges to Rehabilitate Rukungiri Stadium, Urges Parents to Support Sports Talent
Rukungiri: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Gen. Henry Tumukunde, has pledged to prioritize the rehabilitation of Rukungiri Stadium once elected to Parliament, saying the facility’s poor state has hindered the growth of sports in the district.
Speaking through his representative, Peter Kakurugu, during the conclusion of the 2025 Rukungiri Corporate League on Sunday November 2, Gen. Tumukunde emphasized that sports play a vital role in youth development and talent nurturing. He urged parents to allow their children to engage in sports, noting that it has become a professional career capable of transforming lives and producing quality players from Rukungiri District.
Kakurugu commended all participating teams for their commitment throughout the season and assured the public that Gen. Tumukunde’s development agenda for Rukungiri Municipality includes improving sports infrastructure, with Rukungiri Stadium being a top priority.
The founder of the Rukungiri Corporate League, Maurice Tumwesigye, expressed concern over the poor condition of the stadium, saying it has affected the smooth running of the tournament and contributed to inconsistencies among participating teams.
The 2025 season of the Rukungiri Corporate League officially concluded after nine months of intense competition, with Pureflow from Mbarara City emerging as football champions and Kisizi Hospital crowned volleyball champions.
According to Tumwesigye, the league, which kicked off in March 2025, brought together corporate teams from within and outside the district, strengthening social bonds and promoting physical fitness among professionals.
