Fight for Political superiority choke services in Nyamunuka Town Council.

Ntungamo: The current poor service delivery facing residents of Nyamunuka Town Council in Ntungamo district has been attributed to fight for political supremacy by leaders in the area.

In a recent interview with our Ntungamo based reporter, the speaker for Nyamunuka town council Yasin Byamukama Katafa accused leaders particularly, Mayor Sadarah Kaibanda of wanting to become a political lion in the town council.

Katafa revealed that Mayor Kaibanda refuses to work on issues disturbing residents unless he has assurance of kickbacks.

He said bridges remain unrepaired, schools not refurbished, roads in poor state among other issues, when they are not done in the name of the mayor despite the central government releasing money for such works.

“The mayor wants everything done in his name. Our schools are in a state of despair, our roads are impassable because of potholes, and our bridges have broken down. The government releases money for service maintenance but our mayor only wants things to be done in his name not the council “.

The speaker also accused the mayor of snubbing council proceedings aimed at forging ways of extending services to Nyamunuka Town Council citizens.

He said in a financial year, instead of having six council sittings, they are forced to have only four and this is done on the directives of the mayor who usually complains of the financial constraints facing the town council.

However Katafa accuses Kaibanda of using the tax payers money for self enrichment stating that the money collected as local revenue would be enough to support the council activities.

The speaker further accused the Mayer of disrespecting councilors by not implementing council resolutions.

He said residents now receive services at the Mercy of well wishers instead of the government that they give their money through paying taxes.

Katafa threatened that the council will not pass budget for the coming financial year unless the past budgets are fully implemented.
