FDC Leaders in Rukungiri Express Concern Over Muhoozi’s Threats to Besigye

Rukungiri: Leaders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction in Rukungiri District have raised concerns over alleged death threats made by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, against Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is currently detained at Luzira Prison.

The concerns were voiced during a press conference on February 17, held at the FDC offices in Rukungiri District. Vice Chairperson FDC Rukungiri Municipality, Honest Tushemerirwe, along with Robert Tweyambi, former councilor for Eastern Division Amos Byabagambi, and others, expressed fears that Gen. Muhoozi, the son of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, could endanger Besigye’s life.

The leaders cited posts made by Gen. Muhoozi on his X account (formerly Twitter), where he allegedly threatened to harm Besigye if he did not apologize to President Museveni.

During the press briefing, FDC District Spokesperson Innocent Museveni Rubarondesa shared that Dr. Besigye’s health is deteriorating and called for immediate medical attention. Rubarondesa emphasized that Besigye, like every Ugandan, is entitled to healthcare under the Constitution.

The FDC leaders also urged the Ugandan Prisons Commissioner, Johnson Byabashaija, to respect the rule of law and release Besigye for medical treatment, stressing that his condition is critical.

Rtd. Rev. Elly Akankwatsa joined the call, appealing to President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi to release Besigye on humanitarian grounds to allow him to receive proper medical care.
