FDC Collects Over 1,800 Signatures for New Party Registration.

Rukungiri: The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction in Rukungiri District has collected 1,854 signatures out of the 15,000 targeted to register the new political party, People’s Front for Freedom (PFF). This was revealed by Calleb Musimenta, the administrative secretary for FDC in Rukungiri, during an interview with our reporter at the FDC offices on October 18, 2024.

Musimenta explained that while the Electoral Commission requires a minimum of 50 signatories from each district, the FDC in Rukungiri was tasked with submitting 200 to the FDC headquarters in Kampala. However, they set a higher target of 15,000 signatories to strengthen their position.

He assured that they expect to reach the target by next Friday, which is the deadline for submitting signatures to the Electoral Commission.

On Tuesday, 15th October 2024, the FDC officially launched the process of collecting signatures to allow PFF to participate in future elections. Musimenta noted that the new party, People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), is yet to be registered with the necessary leadership and membership. This process is why the Electoral Commission has allowed them to collect signatures and compete with other political parties.

Musimenta acknowledged that FDC may lose some members due to the transition but emphasized that the party will officially dissolve to make way for the new People’s Front for Freedom.
