Electoral Commission Holds Harmonization Meeting for Aspiring Candidates in Buyanja
Rukungiri: The Electoral Commission (EC) has held a harmonization meeting for aspiring candidates at the subcounty level, including LC3 chairpersons and councilors, in Buyanja Subcounty and Buyanja Town Council to align campaign programs and avoid clashes during the campaign period.
The meeting, held on November 7 at the Buyanja Town Council Hall, was attended by various aspiring candidates from different political parties, as well as members of the security team from Buyanja Police Station, led by ASP Muzeeyi Benard, the Officer in Charge (OC) of the station.
During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in Buyanja Sub County, Amanya Sulaiti, emphasized that during the campaign period, every candidate has the freedom of expression and access to information in exercising their right to campaign as provided by law. However, he warned that candidates will not be protected from abusive or slanderous statements arising from their own conduct.
Amanya further urged all candidates to refrain from using language that may incite public disorder, violence, or threaten war, reminding them that campaigns should be peaceful and respectful.

On his part, ASP Muzeeyi Benard cautioned candidates against giving false information to the police and intimidating voters. He warned against organizing groups of people with the intention of using force, violence, or insults to cause disharmony or gain unfair advantage during the elections.
