
Elderly Woman Killed by Housegirl After Argument Over Mopping Rug in Kebisoni
Rukungiri: The territorial police in Rukungiri District are actively hunting for a 30-year-old woman identified only as Constance, who is suspected of murdering an 81-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on May 11, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m., at Nyakabare Cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District.
According to the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the deceased has been identified as Kedress Kashillingi, also known as Muserebende, aged 81, a peasant and resident of the above-mentioned location.
Preliminary investigations reveal that on 2nd May 2025, the suspect, Constance, was found loitering in Kebisoni Town in search of employment. She was then hired by the deceased to work as a housemaid. The deceased was residing with her granddaughter Catherine Natukunda, Catherine’s son Brighton Tumusiime, and the suspect.
In the morning at around 7:00 a.m., Catherine Natukunda left for Kebisoni Town while Brighton Tumusiime went to fetch water from a spring, leaving the suspect and the deceased alone at home. It is reported that the two were involved in an argument over a mopping rug.
At approximately 7:20 a.m., when Brighton Tumusiime returned home, he found Kedress Kashillingi lying lifeless in her bedroom with her head covered with a cloth. The maid, Constance, was missing.
Maate added that Tumusiime immediately alerted residents including Gilbert Kamuhangire, Peter Agaba, and others who rushed to the scene and confirmed that the elderly woman was dead, with fresh head injuries.
The matter was reported to the area LC1 Chairperson, Richard Katamba, who in turn informed Kebisoni Police. The suspect is currently on the run, and police investigations are ongoing.
