DRDC Ongom threatens to arrest Youths funds defaulters.
Rukungiri: The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Rukungiri Wilberforce Ongom Ahimbisibwe has issued a stern warning to defaulters of the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP) in the district.
This comes days after Country FM aired an undercover research report revealing a slow pace of recovery of funds under the youth livelihood program. The report indicated that about 80% of the disbursed funds over past eight years have not been recovered.
Country Radio quoted Harrison Mukuru, the YLP focal person in Rukungiri, saying that out of the 1.2 billion Uganda shillings disbursed to 164 youth groups, only 240 million shillings have been recovered.
Mukuru attributed this, to mismanagement and misuse of funds meant for group projects such as poultry and piggery but were diverted to personal use.
Now the DRDC Ahimbisibwe has emphasized that the government will pursue individuals who have misappropriated these funds and chose to default, regardless of their current whereabouts or circumstances.
He stressed the importance of timely repayment of funds under different programmes disbursed by government to its citizens revealing that the practice opens doors for other people to also benefit.
