DRDC Ongom Hails Karegyeya Family for Establishing Community School.
Rukungiri: The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) for Rukungiri District Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom has commended the Karegyeya family for establishing Karegyeya Memorial Nursery and Primary School, describing it as a significant contribution to the community.
Speaking during the school’s end-of-year thanksgiving and graduation ceremony for 23 top-class pupils transitioning to primary school on December 2, the DRDC Ahimbisibwe lauded the family’s dedication to giving back to society without focusing on profit.
The event was held at the school premises in Rwamunyu Cell, Masya Parish, Nyakagyeme Subcounty in Rukungiri District.
In his remarks, Ahimbisibwe encouraged the graduands to study hard, emphasizing that they are the future leaders. He also thanked parents for their commitment to paying school fees and urged them to prioritize their children’s education. He described education as a social equalizer that bridges the gap between people of different economic backgrounds.
The priest of Masya Church of Uganda, Rev. Bonani Mugire, urged parents to enroll their children in affordable schools instead of incurring debts by choosing expensive institutions. He highlighted the importance of equipping learners with skills to secure their future livelihoods rather than focusing solely on costly lower-level education.
The school director Shivan Ahimbisibwe Katashaya Karegyeya, explained that the school operates as a non-profit initiative aimed at giving back to the community. She appealed to parents to continue supporting the school by enrolling their children.
The LC3 Chairperson for Nyakagyeme Subcounty, Godson Mubangyizi, pledged support for the school. He encouraged the director to submit the student enrollment list so the subcounty can provide desks to improve learning conditions.
Chairperson of the PTA, Micheal Tumusiime, also expressed gratitude to parents and teachers for their efforts in supporting the school.
Karegyeya Memorial Nursery and Primary School, established in 2016, currently enrolls 171 pupils. And over 1, 240,000Ugsh was collected to support the school.
