Don’t plead with Museveni to release Dr. Besigye-PFF asks Rukungiri NRM leaders.
Rukungiri: Leaders of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Rukungiri district have warned their fellow leaders in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) against pleading with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to release Dr Kiiza Besigye when he comes to amass support in the district tomorrow.
Museveni who is the NRM flag bearer for presidency in the next year’s elections is expected to meet his supporters at Rukungiri main stadium later in the afternoon.
Amidst the eagerness by the NRM fraternity to receive their presidential candidate, there have been calls from some of the residents in Rukungiri asking NRM leaders to plead with Museveni to release Dr. Besigye who has been in Luzira prison for over a year on treason charges after his controversial rendition from Nairobi Kenya alongside Obeid kamulegyeya Lutale.
However, the PFF publicity secretary for Rukungiri district and Kinyasano ward councilor Innocent Rubarondesa cautioned NRM leaders not to attempt pleading for Dr Besigye’s release, affirming that his continued detention is politically motivated and charges are trumped up.
Rubarondesa who was speaking to our reporter on Tuesday November 26, 2025 ahead of Museveni’s rally said that Besigye is innocent and that his imprisonment is an intended move by Museveni to suppress opposition in Uganda.
He said the president pardons only the convicted ones and Besigye is not one of them, further calling for his quick trial.
Rubarondesa said Besigye hasn’t asked anyone to talk to the president about his release insisting that he didn’t committe any crime.

Meanwhile PFF also criticized the National Resistance Movement leaders for conniving with the security operatives to tear the campaign posters of opposition figures across the district.
According to Rubarondesa, this happened a few days ago in preparation for the presidential rally of NRM candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who will be in Rukungiri tomorrow.
He revealed that defacing campaign posters of the nominated candidates breaks the Electoral Commission guidelines and is punishable by either imprisonment, disqualification of the candidate in case of involvement or a fine of up to shillings 1.44 million.

Hillary Ainembabazi alias Owa Work, who is vying for the Rukungiri District LCV Chairperson on PFF ticket expressed disappointment to NRM leaders for tearing their posters, revealing that it is an act of intimidation to the community.
He called on residents to boycot Museveni’s rally, accusing him of ochastrating injustices in the country by imprisoning Dr. Kiiza Besigye and holding Sam Mugumya incommunicado for over two months now.
Cue: HILLARY ON BOYCOTT….. RR
Our attempts to get a comment from NRM leaders and security operatives in the district proved futile after their known phone contacts were unreachable by the time of filing this story.
