Christians in Rukungiri Turn Up in Large Numbers to Celebrate Easter Sunday
Rukungiri: Christians from different denominations in Rukungiri District, including Anglicans, Catholics, and Born-again believers, today April 5, gathered in large numbers in their respective churches to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, a symbol of hope and new life.
While preaching in different churches visited by our reporters, religious leaders delivered messages encouraging faith, unity, and trust in God.
At Rujumbura Archdeaconry in Rukungiri Municipality, the Archdeacon, Ven. Benson Akankwasa, warned Christians to be careful about the people around them, including friends and family members, noting that they can change and betray them just as Jesus Christ was betrayed. He urged believers not to put their trust in people, but in the living God.
At Yakobo Orikwera Buhandagazi Church of Uganda in Buyanja Sub-county, Rev. Syson Gumisiriza called on Christians to let Jesus Christ guide them in everything they do. He encouraged them to dedicate their families, businesses, children, jobs, and all aspects of their lives to God.
At Uganda Martyrs Catholic Centre Rwenkurijo in Buyanja, Rev. Fr. Chrispino Mubangizi of St. Peter’s Catholic Parish reminded Christians of God’s command to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth. He encouraged them to value family life and support their parents.
At Rukungiri Community Church in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, Pastor Elaisha Kakwerere emphasized that Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on Good Friday and resurrection on Easter Sunday conquered death, bringing spiritual healing, reconciliation with God, and eternal life to humanity.
At Kyamakanda Archdeaconry, Ven. Polycarp Katwesigye revealed that Easter means gathering together in homes to enjoy and celebrate with family and friends for reaching this important day. He reminded Christians that celebrating does not mean eating only fancy foods; even simple meals like beans are welcome, as they fit within their means.
Meanwhile at Christ the King Parish in Rukungiri Municipality, Rev. Fr. John Vian Byaruhanga noted that Easter means commemorating Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, symbolizing hope, renewal, and salvation for Christians.
