Charles Andrewson Katebire Makes Political Comeback, Declared Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson

Rukungiri: Charles Andrewson Katebire has been officially declared the newly elected LC5 Chairperson for Rukungiri District following the conclusion of the district tallying process.

The announcement was made this morning January 23 by the Rukungiri District Returning Officer, Abas K. Namara, at the district tally centre held at the Rukungiri District Council Hall.

According to the final results, Katebire secured victory after polling 40,946 votes, representing 52.44% of the total votes cast. He defeated two candidates: Angelo Twinomuhagi Bagorogoza (independent), who came second with 20,934 votes (26.81%), and Hillary Ainembazi (PFF), who garnered 16,196 votes (20.74%).

Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Katebire expressed gratitude to the voters for the confidence they placed in him. He also extended an olive branch to supporters of his rivals, calling for unity and collective effort towards the development of Rukungiri District.

Katebire’s victory marks a significant political comeback. He previously served as Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson from 2016 to 2021, before losing the seat to Geoffrey Kyomukama in the 2021 general elections.
